I Belong To The Night - Forever
Hmm, in between some other stuff, I've left it too late to buy a ticket for two different things I had in my plans. In one case I would definitely have gone, in the other it was always a question of justifying the highest sum I'd have paid for a gig in ages, and that's without the petrol bill. The difficulty of juggling things around has become significantly clearer, and it's not like there aren't a dozen tickets already in hand for various shows over the next few months anyway.
On the other hand, it seals a decision for something else I was half-wondering whether I would not bother with, but now will be going to. And especially in the light of a few days' working from home where such things as normal office dress code don't exist, I'm also facing how to deal with the temptation to spend what now represents itself as a windfall, even though it is nothing of the kind, on clothes I'll never get the full wear out of, and highly impractical shoes.
I dare say I'll live, but that won't stop me also hoping for another band (that I now won't be seeing) to get the reformation fever thing, that turns one gig into the odd few!

Jollity And Frivolity
I'm well aware that the fashion police may feel entitled to express an opinion, but in the context of trying to break out of a habit of plain black shoes best characterised as aiming for smartness and sobriety, I'm more than overdue for something a bit more frivolous. And besides, the blue colour will work fine with my summery turquoise skirt and the purple colour goes with my purple dress, so it's not as if there's nothing they'll go with. Having seen them on the website, for once I was pleased to find them also in stock in my size. I'm pretty sure this is a first of me asking for the partner shoe to go with the one that was on the shelf. Picking my moment when there wasn't already a huge queue, with a slight shortage of staff and several people also wanting to be served, there was still a small audience by the time I was asked by someone half my age if I wanted to try them on. Which for some reason remains one of the funniest things I've heard all week. Despite the smirk from her colleague, and it being a fair bet the question came purely out of habit, there's something faintly touching about being treated as any other customer would be, and equally it's no bad thing to have felt entirely comfortable with simply answering in the negative rather than with protesting too much that they weren't for me or some other equally transparent lie. And so I now have colourful new shoes that I like.

What Goes With The Blue Skirt?

Imperfect photos notwithstanding, this is the dilemma - what colour top goes with the skirt? The skirt has a split from the the top left of the diagonal hem of the brighter blue, so it flicks about nicely when I walk, and those are the shoes I would almost certainly wear with it. It occurred to me when I was taking pictures of the shoes that a top in those multiple blue stripes would not be horrific, but equally you can see that the black of the shoes works with the blue too. And I do already have a suitable black top I like. And that's before I realised I have a lovely dress I've never worn that would probably suit the occasion...

While I need my sleep more than I need to share all the make up pictures, just to be going on with here is a picture of the lovely shoes (not mine, alas) whose box is now the venue of the grand lying in state of my ex-make up, prior to its final departure to landfill. And my nice shoes, which are indeed mine.

Sparkly Purgerama!
This afternoon, my entire make up collection was re-assessed for features and colouring suitability, for non-duplication and for fitness-for-human-contact.
There will be pictures to follow, technology willing and the creek don't rise, but the result was far more ruthless than any rational being would have dared suggest beforehand. And the personal and emotional cost of the exercise was both higher and of greater cathartic value than could have been expected either.
I'm indebted to my sparkly facilitator for her assistance, but for the time being, there's a shoebox full of somewhat unsuitable and/or past its best sparkliness sat a long way away from me, and with an inexorable appointment with a bin.
Before being stashed to await the bin, the (standard cardboard) shoebox and contents were weighed at one pound and ten ounces. That's a hell of a lot of sparkly life history in one place, and it's plenty ripe for the bin. And I'm very pleased to find that I am ready for it to be ripe for the bin.
Now, if I only I could have had those shoes that were in the shoebox as well as the increased shelfspace, and the increased room for future sparkly shopping!
